2007 NATA Spring Conference |
If you didn’t get the chance to attend NATA’s Spring Conference at UNL’s Teacher College Hall, you missed an awe inspiring morning! Thanks to the Spring Conference committee for developing a meaningful, productive experience! The keynote speaker, Margaret Macintyre Latta, Associate Professor and Graduate Chair, Teaching, Learning, and Teacher Education College of Education & Human Sciences University of Nebraska-Lincoln presented her paper: “Keeping Room for Artistry in the Art Room”. Read the paper Several breakout sessions with hands on activities were provided by Kathy Stewart and Jen Deets, LPS Art Specialists: “Being a “good” art educator…steps toward further understanding and well-being”. Through their art activity, a personal collage/drawing, participants explored the seven ideals of passionate teaching that can and will make a difference in their well being as a teacher. James Bockelman and Kurt Bergdolt, Concordia College art professors, presented “Attending to the work: An Important Aspect of Teaching”. Through their art making activity participants created a graphite rubbing of textures that they added to and subtracted from with erasures. The workshop dealt with directly helping students and teachers recognizing the importance of attending to the work in order to make informed, reflective responses as it progresses. Participants applied formal concerns to bring the project to a unified resolution. Participants then came back to the UNL Criss Center for Education to hear Anne El-Omami Director of Education, Academic Affairs and Public Programs Joslyn Art Museum present her discussion: “Straight from the Art”. Her discussion included a power point presentation of parodies of art paintings. She included many of her “New Yorker” magazine art parodies. Conference participants headed to lunch on their own before attending the YAM celebration at the state capitol. See the photos
